Jacek Dehnel, born in 1980, is a poet, novelist and translator. In 2005 he was one of the youngest winners of the Kościelski Prize for promising new writers. He has published five volumes of poetry and nine of prose. His first novel, “Lala, tells the story of his grandmother’s life. His second, “Saturn, is based on the life of Francisco Goya, and depicts his painful relationship with his son. His third, “Mother Makryna, tells the true story of a nineteenth-century fraudster who claimed to be an oppressed Catholic nun. His most recent novel, “Krivoklat is the monologue of a lunatic compelled to destroy great works of art. With the kind support of the German Foreign Office, he spent one month at LCB in 2006, 2017 and 2018.

Jacek Dehnel, 1980 in Danzig (Gdańsk) geboren, studierte Literaturwissenschaft und Philosophie in Warschau und ist Lyriker, Prosaist, Übersetzer und Maler. 2006 wurde er mit seinem Roman »Lala« (Rowohlt Berlin Verlag) international bekannt. 2005 erhielt er den renommierten Koscielski-Preis und 2010 wurde sein Gedichtband »Ekran kontrolny« (Kontrollbildschirm) für den wichtigsten polnischen Literaturpreis, NIKE, nominiert. Bei Hanser erschien sein Roman »Saturn. Schwarze Bilder der Familie Goya« (2013). Mit freundlicher Unterstützung des Auswärtigen Amts verbracht er 2006, 2017 und 2018 je einen Monat als Hausgast im LCB.
