Call for entries
The Literarisches Colloquium Berlin (LCB) in cooperation with the Ukrainian Book Institute is organizing an International Meeting of Translators of Ukrainian Literature from 25 – 29 August 2024. Up to 30 literary translators from all over the world will have the opportunity to learn about current developments in Ukrainian literature, exchange views on current translation approaches, discuss strategies for promoting Ukrainian literature. Participants can become involved in a growing network through personal contacts with authors, publishers, and critics, as well as with colleagues in other countries. Questions of aesthetics and poetic traditions will be discussed along with the economic conditions and best practices in the promotion of Ukrainian literature in the participants‘ countries. A public event on contemporary Ukrainian literature will complement the discussions that take place during the conference.
The meeting in Berlin is part of the EU-funded „Archipelagos“ project, in which 11 European partner organisations work together in various formats to strengthen translators in their role as initiators and mediators of Europe’s less represented literatures. Within this framework, the LCB’s international network will be at the service of Ukrainian literature. The natural locations for such a network meeting would be Kyiv, Kharkiv or other Ukrainian cities, but the events of the war make it impossible to realise such a project at present.
