Othman Selmi

Othman Selmi is a Tunisian illustrator, comic author and graphic designer. After graduating from the Tunis Institute of Fine Arts, he started a career in advertising and worked as a press cartoonist. His creations combine simple illustrations and bright colours with politically aware texts tinged with humour and irony. Othman uses his pencils and pens to make his voice heard, reinventing his native Tunisia without constraint. As an artistic and creative director, Othman is a big supporter of teamwork and artistic collaborations. He has published cartoons in collaboration with the Tunisian collective “Lab619.” His work has also appeared in “Samandal” and “F/I/M²/P” in Lebanon, “Actes Sud” and “Alfibata” in France, “Strapazin” in Switzerland, “The Nib” in the USA and “Internazionale” in Italy. He is currently artistic director for the magazine “Legal Agenda,” also supplying the illustrations for the Tunisian imprint.

Othman Selmi ist ein tunesischer Illustrator, Comiczeichner und Grafiker. Nach dem Studium an der Kunsthochschule in Tunis beginnt er seine Karriere als Werbezeichner und Karikaturist. Seine Zeichnungen leben von einem einfachen Strich, lebendigen Farben und engagierten Texten voll Humor und Ironie. Mit Stift und Feder verschafft Selmi sich Gehör, wobei er sein Heimatland Tunesien ganz ungehindert nachzeichnet. Als Art Director und Creative Director schätzt er Teamwork und arbeitet häufig mit anderen Künstler·innen zusammen. In Tunesien erscheinen seine Comics in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Kollektiv »lab619«. Im Ausland veröffentlicht er in »Samandal«, »f/i/m/p« (Libanon), »Actes Sud« und »Alifbata« (Frankreich), »Strapazin« (Schweiz), »The Nib« (USA) und »L’Internazionale« (Italien). Aktuell arbeitet er als Art Director für die Zeitschrift »Legal Agenda«, zu deren tunesischer Ausgabe er auch die Illustrationen beisteuert.
