Salomé Jashi

Salomé Jashi [Tbilisi, 1981] is a documentary filmmaker and producer from Georgia. She has been attracted to filming microenvironments from the very beginning of her career. Her visual approach is minimalist, poetic, evocative, with particular attraction to detail.

Salomé Jashi’s Taming the Garden [2021] premiered at Sundance Film Festival in the World Cinema Documentary Competition and Berlinale Forum and was nominated for European Film Awards. Her previous film The Dazzling Light of Sunset [2016] has been awarded the Main Prize at Visions du Réel’s Regard Neuf Competition as well as at ZagrebDox, Jihlava IDFF, FIC Valdivia and several other festivals. Her earlier work Bakhmaro [2011] has been nominated for the Asia Pacific Screen Awards. All three films were produced in collaboration with Arte’s La Lucarne.

She holds an MA in documentary filmmaking from Royal Holloway, University of London [2006] as well as an MA in journalism from Georgian Institute of Public Affairs [2003] and BA in journalism from Tbilisi State University [2002]. Salomé Jashi was a fellow of Nipkow Scholarship in 2017 and DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program in 2020.

Salomé Jashi [Tiflis, 1981] ist eine Dokumentarfilmerin und Produzentin aus Georgien. Schon zu Beginn ihrer Karriere hat sie sich für das Filmen von Mikroumgebungen interessiert. Ihre visuelle Herangehensweise ist minimalistisch, poetisch, evokativ und von besonderer Liebe zum Detail geprägt.

Salomé Jashis Taming the Garden [2021] wurde auf dem Sundance Film Festival im Wettbewerb für Dokumentarfilme des Weltkinos und im Berlinale Forum uraufgeführt und war für den Europäischen Filmpreis nominiert. Ihr vorheriger Film The Dazzling Light of Sunset [2016] wurde mit dem Hauptpreis beim Regard Neuf Wettbewerb von Visions du Réel sowie bei ZagrebDox, Jihlava IDFF, FIC Valdivia und mehreren anderen Festivals ausgezeichnet. Ihr früheres Werk Bakhmaro [2011] wurde für die Asia Pacific Screen Awards nominiert.
