Osvalds Zebris (*1975) is a Latvian writer and journalist, holding a Masters degree in Economics. Zebris has worked as an editor for various newspapers and magazines. Osvalds Zebris‘ first book – the collection of short stories “Freedom in Nets” – brought him popularity among readers and won him the Annual Latvian Literary Award for best début (2010). The novel “In the Shadow of Rooster Hill” (2014) was written and published for the historical novel series “We. Latvia. The 20th Century,” set in 1905 when the country was part of the Russian Empire. It won the European Union Prize for Literature and has been translated into eight languages. The novel “People of the Wooden House” (2013) tells a mystery of a strange wooden house in one of the oldest neighbourhoods of Riga. Last book – “Māra” (2019) – is a novel about a group of sixteen-year old teenagers. It tells about their first encounter with pivotal choices and decisions. Osvalds Zebris is a member of the Latvian Writers‘ Union.
Osvalds Zebris (*1975) ist ein lettischer Schriftsteller und Journalist. Er studierte Wirtschaftswissenschaften und arbeitete als Redakteur für verschiedene Zeitungen und Zeitschriften. Sein erstes Buch – der Kurzprosaband »Brīvība tīklos« (Freiheit in Netzen) – war ein Erfolg beim Lesepublikum und erhielt 2010 den Lettischen Literaturpreis für das beste Debüt. Sein historischer Roman »Gaiļu kalna ēnā« (Im Schatten des Hahnenbergs, 2014) erschien in der Romanreihe »Mēs. Latvija, XX gadsimts« (Wir. Lettland, das 20. Jahrhundert) und spielt im Jahr 1905, als Lettland zum Russischen Reich gehörte. Das Buch gewann den Literaturpreis der Europäischen Union 2017 und wurde mittlerweile in acht Sprachen übersetzt. Der Roman »Koka nama ļaudis« (Leute aus dem Holzhaus, 2013) erzählt vom Geheimnis eines ungewöhnlichen Holzhauses in einem der ältesten Stadtteile Rigas. Sein zuletzt erschienener Roman »Māra« (2019) handelt von einer Gruppe 16-Jähriger, die erstmals in ihrem Leben vor grundlegenden Entscheidungen stehen. Osvalds Zebris ist Mitglied im Schriftstellerverband Lettlands.
